8 Things You Can't Miss This Weekend
It's no secret that Laurel is most magical during the holiday season. We jump through all the hoops and ring all the bells and whistles to celebrate this time of year, and this weekend happens to be the biggest Christmas weekend of them all.
Whether you're a local or just visiting during the holiday season, you're in luck! We've made a list of 8 things you absolutely can't miss in Laurel this weekend.
Thursday, December 2
Mistletoe at Mason
Join us for Laurel's long-running tradition of lighting up Mason Park. On Thursday, December 2, community volunteers will kick off the time-honored event by lighting up the park at 5:30 pm. Afterward, there will be train rides, food, and fun family activities for everyone to enjoy.
All proceeds from the event will go towards improving the lights for next year and providing much-needed storage space for the displays when they are not in use.
Friday, December 3
Christmas Tree Lighting
Get in the Christmas spirit by caroling at the annual lighting of Downtown Laurel's massive Christmas tree at 6 pm at Pinehurst Park.
The 29th Annual Sertoma Christmas Parade
Bring the whole family to experience the largest parade in the state of Mississippi at 7 pm in Downtown Laurel. Word has it some of our own wood shop elves plan to make an appearance!
United Way of the Pine Belt’s 2021 Prancer Path
Located in the Back Lot area of 250 Magnolia Street in Downtown Laurel, the Prancer Path is a beautiful display of holiday cheer. Trees sponsored and decorated by businesses, individuals, and schools in our community are featured in this fundraiser for the United Way of the Pine Belt.
Saturday, December 4
Kiwanis Pancake Day
7:00am- 1:00pm
A decades-long tradition for many families is to enjoy pancakes at the YWCO or First Baptist Church on the first Saturday in December. Laurelites young and old return home for this event, and the highlight is bumping into friendly faces while in line or finding a seat. The griddle starts cooking at 7:00 am and runs to 1:00 pm. Tickets are $5 in advance or $6 at the door.
Mercantile Fifth Anniversary Celebration
9:00am -3:00pm
When we opened our doors five years ago, we never could have imagined the revival Laurel would see in such a short time. To celebrate this, we plan to commemorate our Fifth Anniversary with a whole lot of Christmas Cheer!
Laurel Gospel Choir will kick off our Fifth Anniversary Celebration with a community Christmas Carol sing-a-long at the Mercantile Yard at 9 am. We will be hosting 10 Mississippi-based vendors showcasing and selling their work in the Mercantile Yard, as well as hiding treasures for shoppers to find throughout our stores. Be sure to come down and see us that day, you never know when a familiar face or two might pop by!
Shop Local
We encourage all our visitors and guests to browse all of Downtown Laurel's stores and check the good boys and girls off your Christmas list this year by shopping at and supporting our local small businesses. Our community is grateful for each and every one of you!
Scotsman General Store Toy Drive
On the special Christmas episode of Ben's Workshop, Ben wants to join in on the Glory House's Christmas Store Toy Drive. From November 1- December 4, drop off a new, unwrapped toy at The Scotsman General Store to help provide Christmas presents to children in the Laurel community. Example items to drop include dolls, basketballs, footballs, Lego sets, and art supplies. See a full list of suggested toys here. Last year Glory House was able to help provide gifts for over 500 children in our community.
