#2,287 Rainy Easter + Birthday Girl.

I can’t recall an Easter when it rained. I’m sure it happened at some point or other, but I truly don’t remember it. Today when the alarm clock went off it was still dark as night in our room and the rain clouds were bearing down and beginning to sprinkle. We walked in the door to the church in a downpour, and I realized it would be the first year we didn’t take a picture on the lawn of the church with the flowered cross.

But once we were inside that Tiffany blue sanctuary, the brass and the choir and the candles and the lilies and the message reminded me we don’t need sunshine to feel Easter. We recited “He is risen, He is risen, indeed!” and celebrated with songs and prayers. And the children’s sermon was hysterical because there were dozens of super chatty little ones who were SO EXCITED that it’s EASTER!

Afterward we had a low key lunch at my parents’ house then headed into town to visit Mammaw for her birthday. Today she turned 93 years old which, of course, merited a box of Whitman’s.

Tomorrow (or, today, since you’re reading this the day after I write) we’re setting off on our big California adventure and I would so appreciate your prayers for flying. You know my feelings about that. I can’t wait to tell you all about what we’re up to, but for now it has to be sort of a secret. So suffice it to say, Ben and I are going to feel like the Beverly Hillbillies out in Los Angeles for work for a little while, but goodness are we feeling beyond grateful. See you soon, California!
